Blueberries

Mike has started his blueberry picking.  He has some for each set of parents plus one more pail.  Tracy, Emily, and Aaron went out with a friend and got two more pails so we sent one home with our friend.  I get the "fun" job of sorting through them, and they were almost clean-picked.  Here is a pile Laura was sorting.

Peeps Baskets

I found this basket idea online (from somewhere) but had to revamp it for the ingredients I had and could find.  Once people started shopping for candy, it disappeared in a big hurry up here.

Valentine's Day Dinner

Thursday is a busy day at our house because I am not home much so I made this heart pizza for Wednesday's supper before AWANA.

Breakfast for Supper

Our grocery store has eight week's worth of advertising coupons running right now. I took advantage of them and one day last week we had some breakfast for supper. If I remember correctly, the eggs and the pancake mix were $.59 each and the potatoes and sausages were $.79 each. The strawberries were a yummy addition!!!!!

Valentine's Lunch

I know it looks like a breakfast meal, but this was our lunch. :) Pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hashbrowns (not pictured)

Tracy worked on heart-shaped sugar cookies with the younger kids yesterday, and I have some cupcakes I am hoping to get frosted with swirled red/pink coloring.

I am hoping to get some fajita-style supper made, but we will see. I guess I will not get much done sitting here. :)

I am sure some of the kids will be swimming today, and I have to drop off the recycling stuff and get a few groceries at the store.

Have a great day.

Going, Going, Gone!

Mike said to mention that "sleeping potion" was one of the things in the stew. :) I also had some hidden zucchini and squash I threw in. Nothing too major...

Clean-Out-The-Fridge Stew

Today was the day to make a stew for supper. I had some ham I did not throw in, but there is burger, beef roast, pork roast, chicken, turkey, and a variety of vegetables in there from meals over the past 1 1/2 weeks. I also put in some "unmentionables," but I'll wait until later to disclose them, if anyone is interested. :)

I Snagged a Few Deals

I pulled out some coupons the other day and ended up getting the ravioli for 30 cents a can and the ketchup for 60 cents a bottle. The Chicken in a Biscuit were $1.49, which is a good deal for me since we like to eat them at "Christmas" parties, and the hot chocolate was 19 cents because I spent $10.00 at the store. I also pulled the trick of shopping for someone else so stuck a few things of mine into his cart so I could get the deals on the limited items such as butter for $1.99 and then paid him back. So "crazy" were my receipts that I had to give him a hand-written one though. :)

A Cheap Dessert

We borrowed from our Thanksgiving salad Grandma makes and made our own. I figured this cost us $1.48 because we got the canned cranberries for $.19 at the grocery store.

Okay, it is in the background, if you enlarge the picture.

Grapes

I bought nearly two pounds of grapes the other day, and they disappeared! Grandma had given the kids some dipping chocolate, and as you can see, they had a lot of fun with it. :)

Cinnamon-less Rolls

Ha ha ha...With all the "help" Laura was giving me at 5 this morning, I forgot to put the cinnamon in the rolls as I was rolling them up! They still tasted good but definitely lacked the flavor we are so used to. And...My experiment of putting them on two pans instead of one didn't work either. They were flat instead of fluffy. Oh well, nobody starved; they're all gone. :)

Cinnamon Rolls

I have some cinnamon rolls rising in the oven. I try to make them each Sunday morning for breakfast but never seem to make enough. Today I put them out on two pans so they'd spread more; hopefully filling Aaron's belly. :) I don't have any brown sugar so made them a little differently today; we'll see how well they go over.

A Memory

I remember buying milk in Kindergarten (the 1/2 pint container) for 4 cents on a regular day, and Fridays were so special because we could get chocolate milk for 5 cents!

Buns and More Buns

I made the butterhorn rolls yesterday.

Today I decided to try the other rolls. I had lots of "help" from Laura today so some of them look as normal as a bun can, some look like teardrops, and some look like lumps of bread.

I made a batch of rolls earlier this afternoon only to find out I used the wrong recipe. My family thanked me for that because they smelled (and tasted) so good. :)

I got the second batch going and forgot to take it out of the bread machine to let it rise. Here's the result of that...
Mike came out of the room when I was working on the second-to-last pan and tried to take one. I had to tell him, "No!" because I only made four dozen. I did give him one from the earlier batch though. I hope these will work and people will enjoy them.

A Busy Day

This morning some of the kids "flew" through their schoolwork. After a while, we headed over to Baudette where we picked up a birth certificate and a photo id for Tracy. She will be flying to Florida with her grandparents next month.

While we were there, we brought the kids near the bridge where there's a small hill going down to the river. They got to go sledding for about 1/2 hour. It wasn't nearly long enough according to some of the kids.

When we got home, it was computer time, and I think all three computers have been running since then for most of the time.

I made some butterhorn rolls for a church rally this weekend in Bemidji we're planning to attend. I still need to make one more batch but need to hear back from my other friend first. Supper was turkey cold dish and a sampling of the rolls, and I made a pan of Special K bars for dessert and a "bedtime" snack.

Now I'm waiting for certain children to go to bed but will first try to upload some pictures of sledding if they worked. I haven't looked at them yet.

The snow has been gently falling all day, and it appears that the blizzard we were supposed to be getting is going to go farther south. Have a good night.

Caramel Rolls

I added some butter and brown sugar to some cinnamon rolls to make caramel rolls for our breakfast this morning. They are rising beautifully! We need the heat as it was -23 degrees this morning.

Mike has been on 32-hour work weeks so the night shift this past week was really nice. He got home at 10:45 P.M. instead of 2:45 A.M. That works for us! However, last night the kids were still partying and a few were still awake when he came home. :)

Nothing is scheduled on the calendar for today. Not even school, but three of the kids have some work to catch up on. Such is life...
